Guyon (Georges). Painter of military subjects... - Lot 1 - Phidias
Guyon (Georges). Painter of military subjects (XIXth century). Group of French officers on the terrace of a patio. In the background: view of Algiers. Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. 45 x 53 cm. Superb frame with golden palmettes. Explanations and notes concerning the uniforms of the officers represented on this canvas. From left to right: a spahi handing a fold to a young staff captain sitting on a chair. This officer wears the African kepi of the 1852 model where the three stripes of his rank can be seen on the headband. He is wearing a skirted uniform soberly decorated with a small Legion of Honor, and epaulets with gold fringes. The officer probably belongs to the light cavalry as evidenced by the sabretache and the curved blade of his saber. In third position, standing is a second lieutenant, aide-de-camp of the 2nd regiment of lancers, the man is in company dress with epaulets and aiguillettes, wearing a police cap of the 1860 model where one notices the insignia of his regiment. On the right of the servants, a woman and a child.
