LOUIS XV 1715-1774 - Lot 324
LOUIS XV 1715-1774 Young and laurel head of the king. Wheel, mark of Bernard de la Molère Sibirol. R/. Two interlaced Ls crowned between two palms. Lily, mark of Pierre Petit. ♦ Dy 1638A; Gad 338; Fr 459 Louis d'or Mirliton palmes courtes 1723 K = Bordeaux. (6.52 g) Very nice. The matte appearance of this type of louis is indicative of the Treasury membership of the ship "Le Chameau". Leaving Rochefort to reach New France, it was wrecked off Cape Breton (Nova Scotia). It was carrying a year's supply of food and cash. The treasure was discovered in 1965.
