Amsterdam, 1753 In this rare and important essay written by the famous Chevalier d'Eon, "finances, the nerve of the State, are studied in their relation to the economy, and not only in themselves. He evokes at length Law's system, and points out the luxury introduced by his system, "luxury unknown to our eyes". Cf. Ined, 1734 [Forbonnais (François-Louis Véron de). Considerations on the finances of Spain. Dresden, 1753. First edition. The first book of Forbonnais. The work is primarily of financial interest but includes numerous digressions on the economy and population. Forbonnais quotes Ustariz, which he translated. He attributes the decadence of Spain less to the expulsion of the Jews and Moors, the settlement of the colonies, or the abandonment of agriculture and industry than to its poor financial system. He argued for a tax proportional to consumption. The work has also been attributed to Montesquieu (see Barbier I, 723). Joseph Mery de La Canorgue. The genius of Alfonso V, King of Aragon and Sicily. Brussels, Paris, Hansy, 1765 4 rare texts; those of the Chevalier d'Eon and de la Forbonnais are highly sought after, and in first edition
