RUSSIA - NICOLAS I December 1, 1825 - March 2, 1855 3 PLATINUM Rubles 1834 СПБ St. Petersburg. (10,34 g) Rare. Very nice. Nicholas I was born on July 7, 1796 and died on March 2, 1855. He was the second son of Paul I, the brother of Alexander I and the Grand Duke Constantine. On December 1, 1825, he became tsar of all the Russias and began by repressing the liberal movement of the Decembrists and then the Polish uprising in 1831. After having favored the liberation of Greece, he posed as a defender of the Slavs and opposed the Turks. He found on his way the English and the French. He died before the defeat of the Crimean War. The platinum coins were minted with metal from the abundant platinum deposits in the Urals at that time.
