BELLOVAQUES Beauvais region Late 1st century B.C. and early 1st century A.D. Head laurel to left, hair curled. R/. Two birds facing each other, an eagle facing a lark. Grenetis. ♦ DT cf 699; LT 7590 et seq. Bronze "with two birds". (2.07 g) Type of *Vendeuil-Caply. Very rare. Irregular flan. Very handsome. *endeuil-Caply is an important and famous ancient site, centered on the Saint-Denis valley, between Mont Catelet and Mont Calmont. The theater is the only well-preserved vestige of this Gallo-Roman town, which has now disappeared. Some historians believe that these remains are those of Bratuspantium, mentioned in Caesar's commentaries.
