DUROCASSES Dreux region Late Gallic War and pre-Augustan period Head to left, hair formed of three volutes alternating with a row of globules, neck adorned with oblique stripes. R/. Abstract horse reduced to a scroll and crosses. Striated base line. ♦ DT 2508 A Potin (cast bronze) "aux croisettes". (2,82 g) Bû Sanctuary type. Very fine/T.B. Durocasses. The Durocasses were settled in the Dreux and Houdan region, between the Carnutes to the south, the Parisii to the northeast and the Aulerques Eburovices to the northwest. They were a secondary people, and must have had vassalage or client relationships with their powerful neighbors, the Parisii or the Carnutes, depending on the period. The Bû sanctuary. The Gallo-Roman sanctuary of Bû is an ancient cult complex located in the commune of Bû, in the northern part of the Eure-et-Loir département. Probably frequented from the 1st to the 4th century AD, the sanctuary comprises a temple, rebuilt at least once, and annex buildings. Ex-voto offerings in the shape of eyes found on site have led some researchers to suggest that this sanctuary was dedicated to the cult of healing waters for eye ailments.
