Mediomatrici. The Mediomatrici or Mediomatrices are a people of the Belgian Gaul of today's Moselle department, where they settled during the 3rd century BC. During the Gallic War, they took a late part in the conflict, sending reinforcements to Vercingetorix, who was besieged in Alesia. Their main oppidum, Divodurum Mediomatricorum, is located at the confluence of the Seille and Moselle rivers, which today corresponds to the city of Metz. Eight other oppida complete the territorial network along the main roads and river routes.
