Statère de billon "straight nose type". Class III. (6.12 g) Type du *Trésor d'Amanlis.
A very fine example.
*Amanlis Treasure. Unearthed in 1835, this treasure trove must have contained some 10,000 coins, including Venetian, Riedonian and Octopedian billon coins. Unfortunately, the treasure trove was dispersed; however, 310 coins are in the Musée de Bretagne, and a second batch of the same treasure trove was discovered in the 1940s. Part of it was rediscovered after the Second World War by Jean-Baptiste Colbert de Beaulieu, a CNRS researcher and numismatist. He officially purchased 400 coins, including 70 for a friend from Rennes who was also passionate about the study of coins.
