From the sale of the Trésor des Sablons (sale 2001) n°74
Trésor des Sablons. In 1997, while walking along the banks of the Huisne, a small tributary of the Sarthe, a couple from Mance found a few shiny coins outcropping on the ground. The treasure consisted of 152 gold staters belonging to three coin series: a series with a crested seahorse, whose traditional attribution to the Venetians has been called into question, and two series with a buckle on the cheek attributed to the Aulerques Cénomans.
Aulerci Cenomani. The Cenomans were a Celtic people who formed part of the Aulerci confederation and inhabited the country that would become eastern Maine. Their capital was Vindinon or Vindinum, today Le Mans.
