(April 1975) n°378 The Ganden Phodrang is the Tibetan government established in 1642 by Lobsang Gyatso. He was the 5th Dalai Lama, who became spiritual leader of the whole of Tibet thanks to the Mongolian Qoshot Khan, Güshi Khan, who in return received recognition as King of Tibet. This marked the end of the Tibetan-controlled Phagmodrupa period. Religious followers of the traditional Tibetan Kagyupa and Bön shamanism schools, opposed to the Gelug school, are driven from power by the Mongols.
