Erotic scene depicting a mating. - Lot 10
Erotic scene depicting a mating. Black ceramic. Height: 15 cm - Length: 14 cm. Chimu culture, ca. 1100-1400 A.D. Peru. Good condition. Small vase with a truncated cone-shaped neck attached to the figure's back. Although the term "erotic" is still used for convenience, it is in fact a misnomer. In the light of current research, it appears that these representations are to be understood within a religious framework: that of the proper functioning of the universe. Acquired at the Hôtel Drouot sale of 18/03/1995, lot n°84, expert M. Blazy.
