Anthropomorphic vase depicting an old blind beggar. - Lot 51
Anthropomorphic vase depicting an old blind beggar. Light brown ceramic, painted dark red on cream. Height: 29.5 cm - Diameter: 19.8 cm. Mochica III culture, ca. 200-500 A.D. Peru. Good condition. Globular body adorned with a highly realistic modeling of a blind, begging old man. His unpainted face highlights the finesse of the modeling. He wears a scarf tied on his head and a thick cloth crown. In his hands, he holds a begging bowl and a lizard-shaped stick. On the back, arched handle and vertical cylindrical neck. Acquired at the Hôtel Drouot sale of 19/11/1991, lot n°54, expert M. Roudillon.
