Mask representing a stylized face - Lot 81
Mask representing a stylized face Green serpentine with traces of oxidation. Height: 15.8 cm - Width: 15.8 cm. Mezcala culture, ca. 400 - 100 B.C. J.C. Mexico. Surface wear. Broken and glued in two parts (break line visible). This magnificent mask, with its rough face and powerful expression, features a square head with an eroded surface. The facial features are sculpted in relief, while the eyes are recessed. A fixing hole drilled above the ears probably enabled it to be hung. Provenance : Acquired on the art market in the United States. Former Meza family collection, 1960s. Former Fernendez Family collection. By family succession, Dr. R. Fernandez, since the 1940s.
