Philippe de la Tour d'Auvergne was born in 1754 and died on September 18, 1816 in Westminster (London). He was a British naval officer, explorer, scientist and territorial administrator. He was adopted by Godefroy Charles Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne (1728-1792) as successor to the Duchy of Bouillon, but this state - situated on the northeastern border of France - was abolished by the Congress of Vienna in June 1815. Around 1870, to feed the bulimia of amateur collectors, a certain J. Brichaut invented 5-F coins inspired by the coins of Louis XVIII and based on the 5-Franc module. These fantasies were manufactured by Menning frères in Brussels. They bear the signature of Henri Charles Würden, a Belgian engraver born on December 13, 1849 and died in 1903.
