T.B./Very fine. *Louis XV made no changes to the monetary system established by his predecessors. His reign was shaken financially by an attempt to introduce banknotes under Law's system, which failed. Louis XV appointed Adrien Maurice de Noailles President of the Conseil de Finances to restore the kingdom's finances. His portraits are by Roëttiers and Duvivier. He appears young, adult and old on louis, double louis and demi-louis, whose intrinsic value varies according to the issue. Louis XV abolished thirteen of the 30 existing workshops. Only 17 remained: Paris, Rouen, Lyon, La Rochelle, Limoges, Bordeaux, Bayonne, Toulouse, Montpellier, Perpignan, Orléans, Nantes, Metz, Strasbourg, Lille, Marseille and Pau. The nickname "louis aux lunettes" comes from the appearance of the two oval shields of France and Navarre on the lorgnon-shaped reverse. This type of reverse was used for the first louis in the reign of Louis XVI.
