The Automobile Club de Nice et Côte d'Azur was created on May 26, 1896 to bring together Côte d'Azur pioneers with a passion for this new invention. It was renamed the Automobile Vélo Club de Nice (A.V.C.N) following the organization of the Marseille Nice Monaco race in January 1897.
