Claude THIENON (1771-1846). - Lot 155
Claude THIENON (1771-1846). Ruins of a Commandery of the Order of Malta in Clisson. Graphite, black stone, white gouache highlights. Probably preparatory drawing for the lithograph by Charles Philibert de Lasteyrie du Saillant. 20.8 x 27.8 cm (view). In a gilded molded wood baguette frame. Claude Thienon, a pupil of Louis-Gabriel Moreau, was a close friend of Baron François-Frédéric Lemot (1771-1827), sculptor and owner of the Garenne estate in Clisson, whom he had met in Italy. A frequent guest at La Garenne, Thiénon produced numerous drawings of Clisson, and in 1817 published "Voyage pittoresque dans le bocage de la Vendée ou vue de Clisson et ses environs" (Didot, 1817), with a preface by François-Frédéric Lemot.
