SIRIUS (MAX MAYEU, known as) GODEFROID DE BOUILLON. Page 20 of the album as published by Dupuis in 1950. India ink on paper. 47.5 x 31.3 cm. The texts in archaic script were added to the phylacteries in 1978 (reworking of the album, ed. du lombard) and can easily be eliminated, but they have historical value and have therefore been left in. An exceptional plate, which captures the power of Sirius's inking, a master of the genre. A fascinating evocation of the High Middle Ages during the Crusades, a dark and barbaric era that the author's line renders admirably, by one of the most personal, elegant and profound authors of classic comics. Important plate by the author (verso, complex geometric projections in pencil). Condition: good, soiling to upper margin, central fold of plate, no adhesives, normal oxidation of paper.
