HENRI V 1844-1883 - Lot 476
HENRI V 1844-1883 HENRI DE FRANCE COMTE DE CHAMBORD. Bearded head of the pretender. Below, VEYRAT. F. Grènetis. In the exergue, ANVERS A (angel's head) B 1872. R/. (lily) LA PAROLE EST À LA FRANCE ET L'HEURE EST À DIEU. Within a grenetis, the shield of France surrounded by the collars of the Order of Saint Michael and the Order of the Holy Spirit, surmounted by a royal mantle, a fleurdelisé scepter and a hand of justice. Silver medal by Veyrat 1872 (58.53 g; Ø 48.72 mm), smooth edge. Bronze medal by Veyrat 1872 (38.73 g; Ø 48.68 mm) Smooth edge. Two medals (silver and bronze). Rare. Superb. These two medals evoke the troubles that took place in Antwerp in February 1872 during the Comte de Chambord's stay in this great commercial metropolis. Viscount Charles Terlinden reported the events in an article published in 1922 in the Revue Belge de Philologie et d'Histoire, pages 45-51, entitled "Le Comte de Chambord à Anvers (février 1872)". After the fall of the Empire in 1870, the Legitimists tried to impose the Restoration of the Bourbons to the French throne. This failed, however, because Henri categorically rejected the tricolor flag, preferring the white fleurdelisé.
