Marco Mantova Benavides. Italian humanist, jurist and collector, born in Padua on November 25, 1489, and died in the same city on April 2, 1582 (aged 92). His family was of Spanish origin, first settling in Mantua in the 13th century and moving to Padua in the 14th. The family was ennobled in the early 15th century. He was the son of Giovani Pietro Benavides, a physician, and Lucrezia.
