EXPOSITION COLONIALE INTERNATIONALE Paris 1931 - Lot 500
EXPOSITION COLONIALE INTERNATIONALE Paris 1931 Afrique medal by Louis Desvignes R/. The pavilion of Afrique-Occidentale française, Algeria and Madagascar (2 examples) Asie medal by Alexandre Morlon R/. The Asian elephant. Oceania medal by Anie Mouroux R/. Maori-style pavilion. Four medals (3 in copper and one in brass). Superb. These medals were struck for the Exposition Coloniale Internationale held in Paris from May 6 to November 15, 1931, at the Porte Dorée and on the Bois de Vincennes site. It brought together colonies from four continents, and showcased the products and achievements of all France's overseas colonies and dependencies, as well as those of the other colonial powers taking part, in pavilions reminiscent, in the case of the French colonial empire, of the architecture of these territories, notably North Africa and Madagascar; America, with Canada and the islands; Asia, with Indochina; and Oceania, with Polynesia. The highlight of the exhibition was the reconstitution of the Temple of Angkor. It welcomed eight million visitors, who came to "circumnavigate the world in a day", according to the slogan of the time.
