King Farouk I of Egypt was born on February 11, 1920 and, at just 16 years of age, on April 28, 1936, became the tenth ruler of the Muhammad Ali dynasty and the penultimate king of Egypt and Sudan, succeeding his father, Fouad I of Egypt. Before his father's death, he was educated at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich, England.
He succeeded his father Fouad I on April 28, 1936, and reigned until July 26, 1952, when he was overthrown and replaced by his son Fouad II. He died thirteen years later in exile in Rome, Italy, on March 18, 1965. His sister, Faouzia Fouad, was the first wife and queen consort (Maleke) of the last Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
**When the king was deposed, the Egyptian revolutionary government took possession of all his collections and returned the proceeds to the national treasury. The name of the king was not mentioned, only "Collection of the Palace of Egypt".
