Victor Guilloteau was a renowned French numismatist, particularly active in the 1930s and 1940s. Although the precise details of his biography are limited, his influence in the field of numismatics is notable. In 1942, he published a major work entitled Monnaies Françaises: Colonies 1670-1942, Métropole 1774-1942. This imposing 829-page catalog, enriched with 330 plates, lists not only current mint coins from the late XIXᵉ and early XXᵉ centuries, but also the various corresponding essays. It is considered a valuable source of information and probably served as the basis for later numismatic catalogs. As a passionate collector, Guilloteau had an impressive collection of French coins. His collection was dispersed at three auctions in 1933 and 1934, organized by expert Mario Ratto. These sales included rare, high-quality coins, testifying to the breadth and value of his collection.
