Robert POUGHEON (1886-1955). - Lot 59
Robert POUGHEON (1886-1955). Fantasy, study circa 1937. Oil on cardboard. Unsigned. 31,7 x 42 cm. We thank Mr Louis Deltour for his precious help and for confirming the authenticity of the work. This is one of the preparatory sketches for the paintings that the artist presented at the Salon des Artistes Français. There are several preparatory drawings for these "Fantasies", notably at the Nancy Museum (from the former Thuillier collection). The composition is a reprise of the themes that the artist develops in his salon paintings of the same format, which show horses and naked or dressed women in a landscape. See, for example, "The Serpent, 1930", a painting kept at the Musée de la Piscine (Roubaix); "The Captives, 1932", a painting kept at the MuMA in Le Havre.
